Universities and research

Companies based in the East Midlands have an exciting opportunity to set up partnerships with some of the world’s leading researchers in sports and technology.

Just a few of the key research centres based in the region include:

Loughborough University
Loughborough University is the UK's premier university for sport and has perhaps the best-integrated sports development environment in the world. For over sixty years, the university has made a unique contribution to the world of sport, bringing together exceptional athletes, facilities, coaching and research expertise, and extensive partnerships with major sports organisations.

Sports technology Institute
A £15 million initiative to enhance research, innovation and enterprise in the sports and leisure sector, and develop cutting-edge technology to support future British champions. The Institute works on research projects with world-leading sporting companies including Adidas, Callaway Golf, Dunlop, Head, New Balance, Nike, Reebok, Slazenger, Spalding, Speedo and Umbro.

Nottingham Trent University, School of Science and Technology
The Sport team at NTU addresses current and contemporary issues within sport, exercise and physical activity, alongside industry relevant experiences of sport and leisure management. This is all explored through interactive learning environments covering key aspects of science, namely biomechanics, physiology and psychology.

University of Nottingham
The University has worked closely with Aqualab, Speedo's competition research and development department, to create Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the instrumental computer modelling technique used to design their world-beating swimsuit. CFD is commonly used for analysis in other areas, such as in the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre which specialises in research for the aeronautics industry, as well as other applications relating to the energy, biomedical and sports sectors.
