Infrastructure

Independent advisors Deloitte have named England’s East Midlands the UK's best location for transport1.

The East Midlands' central location offers tremendous advantages to organisations doing business in the UK. At the centre of the country's transport infrastructure, just an hour from London, the region offers direct freight routes throughout the UK and into Europe. Transport costs are also lower than in many major European and global business centres.
  • Our integrated transport network provides exceptional communications and accessibility
  • Excellent road links put 89% of the country within a four-hour truck drive
  • Rapid rail links put London around an hour away, and Paris and Brussels just over three hours away thanks to the St Pancras Eurostar link
  • The region has two dedicated rail freight terminals
  • Major east-coast seaports are just two hours from anywhere in the East Midlands
  • Every year, East Midlands Airport connects over 5 million passengers with the world, serving more than 100 destinations. It is also the UK's largest pure air freight hub
  • Thanks to the region’s road and rail links, even more international destinations are easily accessible via London Heathrow, London Stansted, London Luton, Manchester and Birmingham airports
Local transport is excellent too, with some of the best travel-to-work times in the country.

“We came to Nottingham in 1992 and have never regretted it. Everything is on our doorstep and my daily commute was reduced from 3 hours to 30 minutes!” David Erasmus, Assistant Director, Inland Revenue
